Juyondai十四代
Takagi Shuzo was founded at Murayama in 1615 and has brewed there ever since, on snowmelt off Mount Hayama the kura calls 桜清水. That year is 元和元年 — the first of the Tokugawa peace, under an era name Ieyasu took from a Tang reign eight centuries before. 十四代 is an old family trademark, for years used on the brewery's aged sake alone; the fifteenth head returned to the kura in 1993, made it the most sought-after name in Japan, and took the family name Takagi Tatsugorō in 2023.
Two labels here are not 十四代 and are older: 朝日鷹, the everyday bottle the family keeps for Yamagata, and 黒縄, the prefecture's own daiginjo. All our super premium sake is air lifted and cold chained direct from Japan — kura to warehouse, unbroken.
